Dominant display from 'Cyborg'! |
Referee Mike Beltran was the man in the middle for this highly anticipated Featherweight meeting, as the opening of a possible five rounds began with the first shot, a left hook, momentarily dropping Evinger before pulling guard , with 'Cyborg' cleverly standing back to her feet. Evinger looked quite stiff and was winding up with no real precision or technique in her early striking patterns, but looked more than adapt in the clinch taking Cris to the canvas for a moment before a pause in the action due to an eye poke against 'Cyborg' occurred. A resume in the action seen Cris land a damaging knee to the body, as Evinger once more looked to use her wrestling heavy base. A good right hand tagged Evinger, sending her back toward the fence and then a similar overhand right from the Curitiba native stunned Tonya as the buzzer sounded to signal the end of the first five minutes of action.
The second round began in similarly dominating fashion for 'Cyborg' who began digging into those leg kicks and landing that powerful right glove on the chin of Evinger. A straight left again stung Tonya who's offensive striking was coming to no avail so far. Another round in the bank for 'Cyborg' in what was so far one way traffic and quite comfortable for the Brazilian heading into the third round.
Another inside leg kick went unchecked for Evinger, as the Missouri native began to stumble before a right hand and high kick sent Evinger to the mat, before Cris allowed 'Triple Threat' back to her feet. An incredible barrage of knees in the clinch smashed the face of Tonya Evinger, as Cris 'Cyborg' finally reached the mountain top with UFC Featherweight championship success.
