The return of Carlos Condit. |
The final PPV of the year sees the return of former Interim Welterweight champion Carlos 'The Natural Born Killer' Condit, as the brawler faces former long time top 10 contender Neil Magny in the main card opener of Las Vegas' UFC 219. Condit has been out of action since his August 2016 mauling at the hands of supreme grappler Demian Maia, while Brooklyn native Magny was similarly dispatched by rising Welterweight challenger Rafael Dos Anjos.
With an incredible professional record of 30 wins to his name, striking ace Carlos Condit has faced and defeated some of MMA's elite throughout his storied career. Jackson Wink's Condit has overcome the likes of Dong Hyun Kim, Bellator Welterweight title chaser Rory MacDonald, Frank Trigg, Dan Hardy, Jake Ellenberger, Thiago Alves, and of course Nick Diaz in a memorable back and forth five rounder. A even more memorable Welterweight meeting involving 'NBK' came in January 2016. Condit challenged then 170lbs king 'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler and displayed tremendous heart and striking ability over 25 minutes but found himself on the wrong side of a razor sharp decision defeat. A possible influence on this Magny meeting in my opinion could admittedly be 'ring rust'. Condit was forced to tap due to a rear-naked choke against the aforementioned Maia, almost 16 months ago by the time this contest comes around. Condit is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous Welterweight's of all time, with the former WEC star securing 28 separate finishes over a career spanning almost 16 years.
6 ft 3 in contender Neil Magny tied Roger Huerta's record for most UFC wins in a calendar year back in 2014, after he stopped William Macario to grab his fifth straight win. Magny holds impressive wins against rising Middleweight contender Kelvin Gastelum, former Welterweight title holder Johny 'Big Rigg' Hendricks and former Bellator Middleweight champ and legitimate knockout artist Hector Lombard. A brutal knockout defeat against Lorenz Larkin brought a crashing end to a three fight win streak for BJJ brown belt Magny. Neil will hold a significant reach advantage at 6 inches, and may look to this natural aid to prevent Condit from closing the distance, in what may prove to be his most dangerous test since his professional debut in 2010.
Carlos Condit via knockout.
